International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has been acknowledged for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering in 1911.

This fantastic event will be taking place at The Geddes Lane Ballroom, where the talents of Australia’s brilliant women of soul will be strutting their stuff. We will supporting Girls Rock! Melbourne, a not for profit organisation who provide education and opportunity for the future generation of girls and women within Melbourne’s diverse music industry. Girls Rock! Melbourne represent everything that International Women’s Day stands for.

The artists participating in this celebratory event will be Andrea Marr, Nardia Brancatisano, Iseula and Rat Child. These women span the diversity that is Melbourne’s Soul Music scene and are synonymous with the discerning audience that is Melbourne.

Andrea Marr has been delivering her brand of feel-good, high energy original funk, groove, blues and soul music around Australia since 1999. With several awards under her belt including Australian Female Blues Artist of the Year for 2005, 2009 and 2012 respectively, she has received critical acclaim both in Australia and Internationally. Most famously her album “Little Sister Got Soul” was picked up by renowned Chicago Blues label “Blue Skunk Music”, reaching No. 18 on the US Living Blues Charts.

Nardia Brancatisano has been an entertainer for the last 19 years, specialising as a Singer/Songwriter with powerful, raw and sultry vocals seasoned in Soul, Blues and Jazz.

Nardia recently launched her new 6-piece band line-up in early 2018, supporting Tex Perkins and Russel Morris as well as playing at various Jazz and Blues festivals around Victoria and NSW. Releasing their much anticipated single “Forbidden Love” to a sold-out Paris Cat in Melbourne, they are soon to release a new album in 2019.

Iseula stands as a sublimely gifted blues, soul and gospel singer possessing a style imbued with deep musicality and bare-faced allure. Her stellar career as a vocalist and songwriter includes performances at Byron Bay Blues Fest, Wangaratta Jazz Festival, overseas performances in the U.S and the UK, as well as a swag of highly coveted awards including two Chain Awards (Nationwide Blues Music Award), Female Artist of the year, VIV/TAS 2013 and an honourable mention in the International Song Writing Competition, Nashville TN. USA.

Set to a thick layering of lush R&B vocal harmonies and jazzy rhythm guitar, Rat Child's powerful soul vocals are combined with her particular knack for personal and political storytelling is musically melded into a soulful sound. She has jived and jammed with some of Melbourne’s finest as a member of the ‘The Core-tet’ (House band of ‘Momentum’ presented by Foreign Brothers) and has been spotted scurrying around the stages of Strawberry Fields Festival, Melbourne Music Week and the Sydney Road Festival.
